DP World in Antwerp Embraces “QLess” Technology For Supply Chain Optimization

By ·

DP World feels that it has found a solution to drayage backups at some of its terminals by utilizing the QLess line management platform.

According to spokesmen, drivers now wait remotely at the Port of Antwerp’s Gateway Terminal, which eliminates the need to sit with their diesel engines running.

“Since deploying QLess, DP World has vastly improved productivity, saved hundreds of hours a day for truck drivers, and also prevents much carbon dioxide from being released into the atmosphere every year,” spokesmen added.

Wim Verdonck, Optimization Supervisor at DP World in Antwerp, noted that during opening hours they we observing peaks in the number of trucks entering the terminal.

“Congestion on our internal roads decreases productivity and increases the waiting time in our terminal,” he said. “After looking at a number of options, DP World selected QLess as their partner to reduce these wait times and prevent congestion.”

As soon as the platform was implemented, the port experienced massive improvements, said QLess Founder and CEO, Alex Bäcker.

“Firstly, all truck lines have been eliminated. As a result, exchange areas are now reachable at all times because there are not hundreds of trucks blocking common areas,” said.

In an interview with SCMR, Bäcker said selling this concept to terminals in the U.S. would be viable now that so much pressure is being placed reducing truck emissions.

“We are waiting for a U.S. port to adapt our solution, but we feel confident that such an announcement will be made soon,” he said.
